TTRPG Writing

I currently run and write sessions for The Arcanist’s Tavern.

From Summer 2022 to October 2023, I worked with London-based ttrpg venue Mutant Freaks. Every week I wrote and ran up to six unique 3-hour Dungeons & Dragons sessions in their persistent world setting of Avalon. As well as writing and designing session one-shots, I took on the role of Lore Master to help make adventures and story arcs consistent across all tables; providing the community with clear story arcs and adventures to experience.

Mutant Freaks provided easy to pick up and run modules for new ‘Community GMs’. To support the Season 3 Cities Never Sleep wider story I was running, three modules were written for community GMs to run. These were formatted to Mutant Freaks house style and were run weekly by GMs well beyond the Cities Never Sleep arc. You can read pdfs of these adventures on the links below.

Player Feedback on MF Sessions

“I was on Phil Kelly’s story spotlight tables and they were AMAZING. Phil’s tables are ALWAYS engaging, immersive, mysterious and atmospheric – PERFECT for a Halloween story spotlight!! The afternoon session was mostly investigative and RP, but it felt most exciting and full of suspense – although not that much happened, but each step we took mattered and had dire consequences.”

“We finished our first 6-part arc of the Myrkul storyline last night with Phil Kelly. We could not have had a better time together as a group or asked for a better GM. PHIL IS PHENOMENAL.”

“I played my second ever session with MF on Sunday morning with Phil K. The party was chaos, 5 players split into the serious group and the chaos pair, and the entire session was so well run and balanced. The atmosphere was suitably spooky, and everyone was involved really well. It was such a great intro to Avalon, and an aspirational level of GM ability!”

“I was at Phil Kelly’s Myrkul double-bill on Sunday afternoon/evening. Only words I need to say is: WOW. WE. WANT. MORE.”

Other highlights at Mutant Freaks included writing and running a full weekend campaign for the company’s ‘Freak Retreat’ castle getaway as well as a four-week horror-themed story spotlight run in October 2023. The October spotlight required managing several other GMs and maintaining a reactive story bible which was ever-changing based on player decisions.
